Springfield press conference with Senator Martin Sandoval on balanced transportation spending

Senator Martin Sandoval, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, called for a 1:1 ratio of transportation spending between roads and transit in this press conference attended by Dan Johnson-Weinberger (on behalf of the Midwest High Speed Rail Association's Transit Riders' Alliance) and Brian Imus of Illinois PIRG.

To start hearing people come out and speak about transit in this way is excellent. The climate has clearly changed. By the time Obama is done with this country we will hardly recognize it.

Illinois needs to tax behaviors that are popular but inefficient or bad. One of those is having one person drive in a car. Illinois could use the drivers desire to use his car to provide funds for more efficient transportation, thereby increasing revenue for the state and making the economy more efficient.
