People in Wisconsin ride trains

This is a news story from Wisconsin on the large numbers of people riding Amtrak between Milwaukee and Chicago. Of course, if the Amtrak was extended west from Milwaukee to Madison, large numbers of people would ride that train as well.

Not to mention, the train should be extended north from Milwaukee up to Green Bay (through Door County and Manitowoc). People will ride trains, and it is always cheaper to run a train than it is to maintain a highway. It also uses far less energy per passenger-mile, which is good for our economy.

It's true. I for one, almost always take the Hiawatha when going to Chicago.

It's unbelievable how something so banal as extending a train less than 100 miles, between the largest city and the state capitol of an otherwise reasonably prosperous state in the richest country in the world, in the 21st century, which would likely replicate service that was there a 75 years ago can be so thoroughly, pointlessly politicized.

Too bad ideology is trumping jobs. And common sense.

As a Californian, we appreciate WI giving back the HSR money. We can use it better than you :-)

Because people ride the train from Milwaukee to Chicago, they "of course" would ride it between Madison and Milwaukee.
